I love watching the FilmSlam! crowds when they leave the theater. On their way in, a lot of the time, they're very quiet, and probably a lot of them just came because it was required for a class, and an excellent excuse not to be in class. But they always leave energized, talking about the film they just saw. It's a great way to wake up young minds.
Now that our morning crowd has departed and we've gotten the noon round underway, it's time to look ahead to our 2:00 round!
We'll be starting off the round with 1:45 showings of And Justice For All?, a thought-provoking collection of short films not to be missed, and the very popular El Bano del Papa. These will be followed at 2:00 with showings of Cargo 200 and Encarnacion.
Closing out the round, we have a 2:15 showing of Brillante Mendoza's extraordinary film Slingshot, which will have a Filmmaker Q&A with Mr. Mendoza at its conclusion. This is a fantastic chance to ask a brilliant (no pun intended!), self-taught film director about his experiences in filmmaking. Another shout-out to my fellow film majors: this is a man you have to meet. All four of his films are showing again, today, and they're all must-sees.
With an afternoon line-up like this, how can you go wrong?
