10% Cinema Reaches a New Level
When we attend
10% Cinema, we're expecting a lot! There are so many social issues at work in these films, and given the beauty and artistry of this year's entries, they will surely win many awards.
The pressure to "come out" is on in
I Can't Think Straight, but the characters of
Ask Not are forced to stay in the closet. In
Between Love and Goodbye and
Trinidad, we gain a great deal of perspective into transgender reality. We catch a glimpse of one-night-stands and losing the love of your life in
Whirlwind. There are edgy love scenes, twisted plots and extreme love-hate relationship in
Between Love and Goodbye and
Whirlwind. If you want your breath taken away in a subtle, moving way, then
Ciao was made for you!
Of course, these same elements reappear in every
10% Cinema film, which is what makes this category so fascinating. We can all relate so deeply to all of these stories. And never forget, the first requirement in any gay movie is gorgeous lead actors, and WOW did we get them this year! The leading men and women in most of these films look nothing short of supermodels. In ten short days, these
10% Cinema films have really shown us how much we've grown as a society and they will all stay with us long after this year's festival ends.
