Film Review: The Disappeared
The Disappeared is a horror/suspense flick with a well-written plot that will keep you guessing to the very end. Matthew (Harry Treadaway) is the adolescent older brother of Tom, a child who goes missing one day from the neighborhood playground. Matthew thinks that he starts to hear the voice of his Tom, asking for his big brother's help. Tom's not the only voice that Matthew hears, as he begins to see and have conversations with dead people.
The story line thrills the audience as the mystery unfolds, creating suspects everywhere. It's a whodunit flick with a chilling, suspenseful feel to it. Matthew is Peter Falk from
Columbo and Haley Joel Osment at the same time. As the movie progresses, the plot goes deeper and deeper, begging for its audience to solve the mystery. Just as the audience almost begins to be oversaturated with anticipation,
The Disappeared's director (Johnny Kevorkian) unveils a thrilling, shockingly satisfying ending.
Kevorkian does a masterful job in his directing debut and allows the pace of his movie to dictate the suspense as opposed to special effects or gory violence. It's an excellent film that has plenty of both mystery and suspense.
Andrew is a student in Cleveland State University's Film and Digital Media program.
