Film Review: Kassim the Dream

Kassim the Dream is an interesting documentary about junior middleweight champion boxer Kassim Ouma. A native from Uganda, Kassim was kidnapped from school at the age of six by the National Resistance Army in Uganda and was forced to become a child soldier. During the 12 years Kassim spent with the rebel army, he began to pick up boxing as a way out of all the violence going on around him. Around the age of 18, Kassim came to the United States with his boxing team and did not return to Uganda.

The film follows the boxing career of Kassim Ouma in the United States from training, to family life, to a big fight for the middleweight title belt in Las Vegas against Jermain Taylor.

Throughout the film, Kassim tells of his story in the National Resistance Army, and how it seems to haunt him day to day. Directed by Kief Davidson and executive produced by Forest Whitaker, Kassim the Dream captures the viewer and shares all emotion as it tells one truly remarkable story.
