The noon round is already in? Wow! All I did was blink! (Okay, and run down to the store to correct a slight... uh... wardrobe malfunction. No, not that bad.) Anyway, it's a lot quieter up here at the moment, probably because things are thronging down by the theater. It's probably calmed down there at this point, though, too. Everybody's in their films!
So here's what's coming up in the next round, and I'm not even going to say "This is on Standby," because almost everything is, so it's easier to mention what isn't instead.
In the mood for intrigue? Kicking things off at 1:40, we have Alive! A college student comes home for his father's funeral and discovers that his primary inheritance is a decades-old blood feud that may make it impossible for him to resume the life he knew. If that seems far-fetched, think again and check out Headhunter at 1:45. A corporate recruiter discovers just how intense the competition can get for a high-profile position he's trying to fill... he might prefer to switch places with the lead in the last film!
Want to see some of the best short films we've played this weekend? Then the Independent Shorts Jury Awards Program is for you. See which short films our panel of jurists felt were tops in this year's festival. Did your favorites get in? That starts screening at 1:50.
What's On Your Plate at 2:00? Okay, I should really stop doing that, shouldn't I? It is at 2:00, though, and it's an awesome film that follows two young New York City students as they found out just what people are eating in cities, and how much of it is actually healthy. Whether you've been grazing in the Hospitality Suite (like me) or grabbing burgers from the food court, this is a good film to see, and possibly a life-changer. (Or at least, a lifestyle-changer!)
If you'd like some hard-hitting drama, check out The Enemy at 2:10. Two parents from opposite sides of the social spectrum run into each other while waiting for news about their children, whose lives have been shattered by a terrible incident of youth violence. They may have more in common -- and more standing between them -- than they realize. Find out with them! (I heard a rumor that there might still be a few tickets for this at the box office, but I can't guarantee that it hasn't gone back on Stand-By, too. Swing by and check!)
Ever wondered at how outrageous the prices for artworks sometimes get? Learn about the forces driving them in The Great Contemporary Art Bubble, which will take you into some of the great auction houses around the world. Are these artworks worth what people are paying for them, or are they actually buying into a dream that everybody will have to wake up from soon? Find out at 2:15.
We close out the round at 2:20 with the charming, adorable Racing Dreams which introduces you to our next generation of NASCAR champions. They're racing in "Karts" right now, and wow, those things look nothing like the little go-karts I remember, and even less like the one in pictures my dad has from his childhood. Check out these awesome kids and see how far they have to go -- and how far they've already come -- to achieve their dreams.
This is going to be a packed round, so if you haven't already come down to Tower City, come now and get a good spot in line so you can get the best possible seat! This final day of the Festival is only going to get hotter! And if it's your first day down here, make sure you read about how Stand-By works, refresh your memory on Tower City's parking situation, and give yourself a little extra travel time just in case. We want you to have a wonderful afternoon and evening with us.
