Opening Day... for someone else, anyway!

So it's the Home Opener for the Indians this afternoon, and that's probably going to mean some traffic and parking headaches. So it's time to talk about parking again! But I'm going to start off, yet again, by saying that everybody really ought to consider letting RTA bring them downtown today. On game days, RTA generally has extra buses and trains on the schedule to accommodate the crowds. One possible twist in that is if you're coming in from the west side on the Red Line, which has maintenance going on between West 25th Street and West 98th, so if you're coming in from that direction, make sure to give yourself some extra time.

Do the same if you're driving in yourself -- give yourself plenty of extra time so you can find a space and reach your theater without feeling rushed and frantic. I have some tips for how to avoid a parking crunch here.

There's a slight chance of snow today -- yes, I have my Weather Geek hat on -- but nothing significant. Tonight we may get some actual accumulation, but the weather service is predicting less than half an inch. So the only real impediment to your drive is going to be the sheer number of other people coming downtown today and tonight. Once again, leave early, give yourself lots of time, drive carefully or take RTA and don't drive at all, and have a wonderful day with us.

By the way, at 12:15 we're going to have something really fun going on in Tower City Center. There will be a fitness demonstration by the Grand Staircase of the Skylight Concourse (that's the same staircase we'll be commandeering in a few nights for the Closing Ceremony) in conjunction with the film Autumn Gold. I've heard that they'll be giving out some fitness gear -- jump ropes, at least -- to participants, so if you're spending the day with us but want to feel a little sporty too, this is perfect for you.

The weekend is on us, and so much is going on, so I'll be back soon with more information. I heard a wild story this morning so I'm going to be running around digging up more information about exactly what happened, and I'll get back to you with that, too.
