Now that the noon round has gone in, we can go into more depth about what's coming up in the afternoon, and take a quick walk through the options. If you haven't already watched Bill's Buzz about today, this will hopefully help you make up your mind and pick out the film you'll enjoy most of all.
The round starts off at 1:45 with One-Zero, which will transport you to Cairo on the city prepares for a critical football championship. If that's not your style, at 2:10 you can embark on A Brand New Life, the heart-tugging story of a young Korean girl who has to start over from scratch when her father abandons her at an orphanage.
If you'd prefer, you can go North at 2:15, and accompany a retired skier as he makes a cross-tundra journey to rediscover himself. Or, if that's a little too chilly for you, heat things up with The Big Gay Musical, director Casper Andreas' second Festival film... and what a wild film it is! It starts at 2:20.
If campy musicals aren't your style, we have another flavor of Masquerades that you can try at 2:30, following the story of two siblings in Algeria, whose ambitions for their lives come into conflict. Alternately, at 2:35 you can attend The Exhibition, a tale of a family that comes together around its aging artist patriarch, to launch one more art show.
If you're seeking social justice, you can take a trip to 9500 Liberty for a glimpse into the polarizing battle over immigration law and racial profiling that divides a small Virginia town. Director Eric Byler will be on hand after the screening to answer audience questions, so this one's a do-not-miss.
That's quite a selection, and things are only just revving up. I'll post information about the 4 pm round once these films are all in session. If you're not down at Tower City yet, and would like to get a look at The Daily before you get here, you can read it online here.
