It's been such a busy day today, and yet I keep feeling like I haven't gotten anything done and time just keeps getting away from me! That's probably because there are so many incredible distractions around -- I'll bet they're having the same effect on you! The accordion players strolling through Tower City in connection with the screening of Polka! were delightful to watch, and the chess matches are a little mesmerizing as you watch one man take on everyone who comes to play with him. I have trouble enough playing one game of chess at a time, so I can't even imagine how he does it.
The Green Wave, as I said, completely ruined my make-up. A lot of my online friends would -- rightfully! -- call that a "First World Problem," but I was shocked at just how many times the film brought me to tears. I was also a little shocked that more people hadn't come to see it, given how recent the riots in Iran were and how much is going on in the Middle East right now. There was a lot of the story that never made the news channels and sites, and that took me by surprise. I hope it gets a wider release because it's a need-to-see film.
That is, of course, true of a lot of the films in our Festival. Any time you see the Greg Gund Standing Up Film Competition notation by a film, you can rely on it being an important piece, that might just ruin your make-up too (assuming you're wearing some). Go see one of those films; no matter which one you choose, it'll be a life-changer.
The evening is approaching and soon the "Tweet Up" in Tower 230 will get underway. I hope a lot of you will be attending! I won't manage to make it myself -- I have to go act like a grad student for a few hours -- but I know Meaghan will be there and who knows, you could end up in tomorrow's Buzz!
