ArtWorks: The Progressive Collection -
authored by Toni Morrison, Toby Devan Lewis,
Peter B. Lewis, and Dan Cameron
EXCERPTED FROM THE INTRODUCTION:
Art inspires. Inspiration begets invention.
Invention creates change and change ignites
progress. In the early 1970s when Progressive
CEO Peter B. Lewis began acquiring prints for the
rapidly growing auto insurance company, he
knew a little about art but a lot about progress.
He grew a business around it. The Progressive
Corporation was built on a foundation of
unconventional thinking and contemporary art
reinforced that ideal. In 1985 under the direction
of Toby Devan Lewis, the Progressive Corporate
Art Department was created. Since then,
Progressive has continually rejected convention
and reinvented their collection by promoting
emerging talent and showcasing some of the
world's foremost creative thinkers. Today,
Progressive has one of the most exhilarating and
vital collections in the world, defining risk by
challenging perception and provoking reaction.
The 285 works chosen for this publication
represent a select cross-section of more than
6,000 pieces in the collection, and serve to
document a mission rather than catalogue an
inventory. This art is not mere food for thought.
This is fuel for fire.
Please join us at an exclusive east side locale for an evening of awe, art, and autographs. You know that you'll want to be seen at this art scene! |
