Telling a story is what filmmaking is all about, but producing the film is just the beginning of the process, as the work becomes meaningful only when it is seen by an audience. This panel will cover a critical aspect of cinematic storytelling: getting the work seen. Beginning with the fundamentals of distribution, our panelists will explore the various ways films are brought to the public's attention from traditional theatrical exhibition to the rapidly changing cable, satellite, and DVD markets, to the new opportunities (and pitfalls) resulting from digital delivery of moving images over the internet. Given the panelists' connection to the CIFF, particular attention will be devoted to the central role of film festivals in the filmmakers' quest to have their stories seen and heard.
