The development of high-quality, yet low cost, HD cameras and equipment has put this form of production into more filmmakers, resulting in a surge of documentary cinema that is accompanied by expanding creativity and audience interest. This panel will explore differenes between documentary production and fiction filmmaking, including scripting, financing, budgeting, editing, and identifying a compelling story to tell. The distinctive marketplace for documentary funding, distribution and exhibition will also be discussed, with a focus on challenges that arise when creative output is competing for limited resources and a growing, but often specialized, audience.
