Jonas Bechmann is one of the most talented defense lawyers of his time. But after the tragic and mysterious death of his father, Jonas’ life has not been the same. He is convinced that his father, also a defense lawyer, was murdered by a disgruntled former client. In his search to find the truth, Jonas applies for his late father’s position and is rejected by the company. Discouraged that he will never get any real answers, Jonas joins a friend out for a night he can barely remember. However, when he wakes up, he finds himself accused of a murder he did not commit. He must now make the decision to run or fight against the blackmailers who set him up. The more he gets involved, the more the blackmail links back to his father’s death. Director Kasper Barfoed does an incredible job of keeping the audience engaged and wanting to know the truth just as much as Jonas does. THE CANDIDATE is a fast-paced thriller that continues to intensify to the very end. (In Danish with English subtitles)—L.W.
