Yes! We.. wait, can we? Take a good look into the Democratic National Convention of 2008, showcasing candidates Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton, through this film that promises to offer a new perspective on the formerly predictable political documentaries. CONVENTION might possibly be one of the first films about the United States government that won’t make you want to get out of your seat to grab a picket sign, as it sincerely concentrates more on the individual than the issue. Focusing on Denver, Colorado Mayor John Hickenlooper’s office, various protestors, and the staff at the Denver Post, this documentary creates a trifecta of perspective that shows what its like for those Americans on the inside, those on the outside, and those trying to bridge that gap through the media. Although it does finally give politics a much needed sense of humor, CONVENTION digs in deep and comes out with an exhausting and grueling look at what goes into an event this massive. At times the pressure gets so intense you’ll feel like you’re sitting right in the middle of it. Some break down, some give up, but most seem to find it in themselves to pull off what has gone down in history as one of the best and most peaceful Democratic National Conventions to date. – M.M.
