FATHER AND GUNS is laugh-out-loud funny and the highest-grossing French-language film ever released in Canada. Jacques and Marc are father and son undercover cops in Montreal. They’re both wise-cracking hotshots, the best at what they do. Only problem is, they can’t stand each other. When one of their sting operations goes awry, a fellow officer is kidnapped by a murderous biker gang. The goons threaten to hold onto him until their boss is released from prison. To get their buddy back, the cops need to get close to the bikers’ lawyer Bérubé, who has issues with both his conscience and an alienated son. When Jacques and Marc find out the Bérubés are going back to nature with an adventure therapy group for estranged fathers and sons, they infiltrate. There, in the muddy Canadian wilderness, souls are bared and primal screams screamed, with mixed but hilarious results. Will the fathers and sons be reconciled? Will Bérubé squeal on the murderous bikers? Veteran actor Michel Côté and stand-up comic Louis-José Houde are a riot every second they’re on-screen. See FATHER AND GUNS now; a Hollywood remake is in the works. (In French with subtitles) – B.B.
