After seven years of marriage, Oskar (Jiri Machacek), a television weatherman, can't stand the sight of his wife Zuzana's nose a minute longer. While Zuzana, a radio DJ, and their young son are away on a ski trip, Oskar concocts an elaborate plan — which includes fudging his weather forecast — to prolong both their stay and his weekend tryste with the sexually voracious Hungarian au pair. And, while this bold effort only results in him ending his marriage and losing his job, neither Oskar nor Zuzana despairs for very long. After moving into a starkly furnished bachelor pad, Oskar, in spite of his heavy drinking habits, finds employment driving intoxicated patrons home from bars and restaurants, where he woos the famed aging songstress Nora. Meanwhile, when Zuzana meets the rugged divorcé Matej (who, by the way, can't get enough of her nose), she seeks relationship advice from none other than Oskar's parents. In SHAMELESS, Hrebejk effortlessly employs visual comedy to its highest effect in this wry tale of love lost and love found. (In Czech with subtitles) –E.J.B.
