Ever wonder what’s going on next door? Ever spy on your neighbors, gossip behind their backs? Well, if you live here you do. TRAILERPARK is a narrative rich with character development, created entirely by students from Ohio University. A story concerning 13 neighbors stuck in an small trailer park, this film is all about human connections. Some connections are new, some are lost, and some are at times quite troubled. Here is a place where it appears loneliness reigns and boredom is almost always sure to take over. Filmmakers Patrick Muhlberger and Jonny Look successfully drag us into this dark world in which we become voyeurs ourselves. Privacy ceases to exist as they walk us through a widow’s bedroom, a man’s inhibited admittance of his homosexuality, an uncomfortable anniversary of an estranged married couple, and the mental and physical demise of an eccentric spinster. The slow and steady pace contrasts the complexity of this film and adds to its authenticity, though its characters are what really stay with you. TRAILERPARK is a study of American life on the edge of society, told with a sense of irony and perspective, which reminds us that everyone has a story of their own. – M.M.
