TURTLE: THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY is the epic story of a little loggerhead turtle as she embarks on her extraordinary migration. Born on a Florida beach, she rides the Gulf Stream up towards the Arctic and swims around the entire North Atlantic to Africa. When it’s time to lay eggs, she returns to the beach where she was born, taking an astonishing 25 years to get there! The odds are against her, though. Whales and sharks are her natural enemies; just one in ten thousand turtles survives the journey. Then, too, the undersea world is changing, as fish disappear and sea levels rise. Professor Jeanette Wyneken of Florida Atlantic University is one of the world’s leading turtle biologists and the film’s key science consultant. She says: “The timing is right to tell their story before it disappears. We know more about the loggerhead than any other sea turtle … the journey is their story. But it’s telling us more about the state of the oceans; it’s helping us understand what’s happening in the ocean at large, and how we need to protect it.” Narrated by Miranda Richardson, TURTLE is a spectacular family film, a sapphire-hued, visual delight. – B.B.

This film is presented in loving memory of MARILYN HARRIS (1941-2009), CIFF Board member from 1988 until 2009, by her Film Festival family.
