WARRIOR CHAMPIONS tells the inspiring story of a group of American soldiers who lost limbs or suffered paralysis during their tours in Iraq. Rather than giving in to depression, they’re actively combating a new enemy: their own bodies. The film follows veterans Kortney Clemons, Scott Winkler, Melissa Stockwell, and Carlos Leon as they fight to get in shape for the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing. Kortney is a sprinter and long-distance jumper with one leg who has written a book about his life at war and in sports. Scott is a paralyzed discus thrower who travels around motivating other disabled veterans and kids. Melissa completed the New York City Marathon less than a year after losing her leg. Before deciding to train as a swimmer for the Paralympics, she had never swum competitively. Carlos survived a year in Iraq as a Marine, only to break his neck in a diving accident when he got home. He’s now a passionate discus and shot put thrower. WARRIOR CHAMPIONS is an uplifting testament to the strength of both body and spirit. – B.B.
