A Tribute to George Gund III
Whenever I saw George Gund, he would notice my shoes right away. Once when I was wearing a pair covered in sequins, he asked if they came in his size.
GG3 has had a profound influence on my life in the amount of time that I knew him. I really wanted to do something in my own way to play tribute to his life and celebrate the bond that we shared. Shoes instantly came to my mind, as well as Cleveland and, of course, the film festival. So, I reached out to my artist cousin, Ashley Rowland. With the help of Ashley's creative talents, I found my way to honor George. It is with great pride and excitement that I wear these one-of-a-kind GG3 shoes during the Opening Night Gala, which is dedicated to him.
Her design even incorporates his signature eyebrows! She hand-painted his face on one side of the shoe with the Cleveland skyline and the letters "CIFF" are on the opposite side. A film reel wraps around the toe. She captured George's love of hockey with hockey sticks on the heel. Since I am known for my love of glitter, I chose to alter the red signature sole that Christian Louboutin shoes are known for. My soles are covered in glitter; it is the sparkle GG3 would expect from me!
