Few films are able to capture the magical agony of being 13 as well as DEAR LEMON LIMA does. Working at an ice cream stand and confiding in her diary, Vanessa Lemor resolves to win back the heart of Phillip Georgey who recently broke up with her. She is sure that if she becomes a student at Nichols Academy, where Phillip is a student and his family a legacy, he will love her again. Admitted under a minority scholarship because of her heritage, Vanessa quickly finds herself not quite fitting in with the other students. As the story unfolds, Vanessa befriends a group of other misfits who come to be named "Team FUBAR" and competes in the school's "Snowstorm Survivor Competition." Although Vanessa set out to win back Phillip's heart, she finds many other treasures instead, not the least of which are true friends. As she and Team FUBAR compete with the other more popular students to win the competition, Vanessa must learn to embrace her heritage and ultimately her own value. Quirky and inspiring, this film is an experience not to be missed. – B.K.
