A scripted documentary turned bizarre satire, MY AVATAR AND ME is the reconstructed account of Mikkel Stolt's fantastical immersion into the cyberspace world of Second Life. Initially a failed documentary filmmaker, Mikkel lives an ordinary life with his ordinary girlfriend Helle. One day he comes across an article about Second Life in a newspaper, attends a conference, and decides to make it the subject of his next film. Mikkel introduces himself into this new virtual world as Mike Proud, the Avatar or graphic alter ego he creates and has total control over. Discouraged by continual rejection from other Avatars at first, Mike finally meets Helena, a beautiful and voluptuous blonde who owns the nightclub Mike frequents in Second Life. Consequently, Mike becomes infatuated with Helena, ultimately transcending into Mikkel's addiction with his new fantasy world. The more time Mikkel spends in his second life, the more he is removed from reality, eventually being thrown out of his apartment by his real-life girlfriend. Mikkel's journey through Second Life proves to be an ultimate learning experience for him. MY AVATAR AND ME is an enlightening examination of today's relationship between human and technology that is truly unlike any film you've ever seen. (In Danish with subtitles) – M.M.
