Remember watching Pee-Wee's Playhouse when you were younger and thinking, "This set must have been created by a bunch of dudes smoking drugs and having a good time?" As it turns out, the set of Pee-Wee's Playhouse was created by a bunch of dudes smoking drugs and having a good time. But what happened to those dudes after the show ended? BEAUTY IS EMBARRASSING is the story of Wayne White, Emmy Award-winning artist, set designer, and puppeteer of Pee-Wee's Playhouse and many more shows, music videos, and films. Personal, joyful, and irreverent, this documentary is an outrageously fun and outlandish look at the man who bucked tradition in the quest to become the artist of his dreams. We get a behind-the-scenes look at all of White's major contributions to pop art. We also get a peek at his process of creating the modern art he is currently renowned for. The kid in you will relish the chance to meet the man who created some of your favorite memories, and the adult in you will admire White's drive and persistence to be himself, no matter the cost. If you've ever wanted to be an artist, or have ever wanted to experience the process of unique creation, BEAUTY IS EMBARRASSING is your film. – T.W.
