JAMIE AND JESSIE ARE NOT TOGETHER, much to the dismay of Jessie. The two women are roommates and best friends, and their relationship is nothing but platonic. Jessie has been not-so-secretly in love with Jamie for a long time. And now that Jamie's on the verge of moving to New York to start a Broadway career, Jessie's under pressure to let her know about her feelings. Set in sun-drenched hipster enclaves of Chicago and at the city's lovely Lake Michigan shore, this cheerful film puts an unusually upbeat face on unrequited love. As Jessie goes to her own auditions, works as a barista, and goes on awkward blind dates, she can't get Jamie out of her head. Meanwhile, Jamie is involved in a passionate relationship with the very hot Rhonda. Adding to the lightheartedness are hilarious musical numbers that look just like they would if your friends grabbed brooms and burst into song at your local coffee shop. –B.B.
