With an unexpected and riveting performance from Orlando Bloom, THE GOOD DOCTOR introduces us to Dr. Martin Blake, a first-year medical student who's been desperate for respect his whole life. When he meets the angelic, blonde Diane—a flirtatious teenage patient being treated in his hospital for a kidney infection—Martin's ego is salaciously satisfied. But as Diane's illness fades and the threat of her leaving the hospital looms, the real Dr. Blake emerges. Masked by good manners, Martin's deceptive and psychopathic dark side brings with it homicidal tendencies, and his obsession with Diane drives him to depraved depths to make her a permanent patient of his hospital. Cunningly pernicious he keeps most fooled, until the suspicions of orderlies and nurses alike threaten to expose his criminal ways, ultimately spiraling him into a frantic panic. A thrilling psychosexual drama, THE GOOD DOCTOR portrays the warped reality of a dangerous, narcissistic man trapped inside his own head. –M.M.
