If you’ve ever wanted to be a Hollywood starlet and are in Noah Baumbach’s cinematic masterpiece, “The Squid and the Whale,” and have become an indie-darling and besties with Ben Stiller’s personal assistant and have a gay brother whose boyfriend was the gay guy in Ugly Betty and just know deep down in your heart that Ralph Macchio is totes gonna be ur boyfriend, then you should know that you are going to have an epic alcoholic meltdown and alienate yourself, your agent, the gay guy from Ugly Betty and, possibly, Jesse Eisenberg, your costar in Noah Baumbach’s cinematic masterpiece, “The Squid and the Whale.” Of course, if you’re Halley Feiffer, you turn your epic alcoholic meltdown into a movie about how totes awsum you are and that movie will be Oscar® gold. Especially if the gay guy from Ugly Betty directs it. And Ralph Macchio plays your ex-boyfriend. HE’S WAY MORE FAMOUS THAN YOU is a raucous, raunchy, hilarious film about Feiffer trying to save her own career with the help of some friends. In a fame-whoring, TMZ-watching, wannabe star culture, Feiffer gives the comedic performance of this year’s CIFF as a wreck of a has-been who is out to remind the Hollywood machine what she could have been: herself. – T.W.
