Country: ISRAEL
Run Time: 84 minutes
When he was in the Israeli Army, Yossi loved a fellow soldier who died in his arms in Lebanon. Now a dedicated cardiologist, he barricades himself behind his job and empty encounters through the internet. Even his co-workers can’t break down his defenses so his supervisor orders him to take a vacation. On his trip, Yossi gives a ride to four soldiers stranded while on leave. One of them is openly gay and begins trying to lure Yossi out of hiding and back into the dangerous and wonderful world of real emotions and, most frightening of all, love. Yossi, with a soldier’s instinct, knows the art of defense. But young Tom’s beauty, charm, and open love of life may just be a force too powerful to resist. Told in an honest and direct style, YOSSI is the warm and charming story of a man learning to once again open his heart to the possibility of happiness. (In Hebrew with subtitles) – C.R.
