Country: NEW ZEALAND
Run Time: 105 minutes
Journalist Richard Davis hates his job. His true love is music, and he spends his free time trying to get the band he manages on the radio. It's 1965 and the world is going bonkers over rock 'n' roll. Unfortunately for Davis, the New Zealand government, which controls the airwaves, want nothing to do with it. After getting canned from work, and inspired by the encouragement of his girlfriend, Davis decides to take a stance against the monopoly. If they won't play rock music, he'll go around them. He recruits his buddies and begins the daunting process of creating a pirate radio station. They know absolutely nothing about boats or transmitters, and their inexperience makes for some funny, but also tragic, moments. Regardless of the obstacles, Davis and his crew are a determined and relentless group who will stop at nothing to achieve radio freedom. Based on the unbelievable and inspiring true story of Radio Hauraki, 3 MILE LIMIT moves with an incredible swagger that's right on par with the music that Davis and friends fought for. —E.F.
