Run Time: 78 minutes
Have you ever tried and failed to explain one of your dreams to another person? Maybe the retelling isn’t as compelling… maybe the problem was in the way you told the story. The filmmakers in COLLECTIVE:UNCONSCIOUS pawn out their dreams to other storytellers. Each filmmaker records one of their dreams and passes it on to another director to realize the writer’s unconscious vision. The results are breathtaking: they include a lyrical black-and-white planet where citizens are hypnotized by an omnipotent voice counting sheep; a hysterical, enraging game show in which a grim reaper from “the department of black death” condemns children at the hands of law enforcement; and a gym instructor who empowers and bewilders a student questioning their gender with the blow of a whistle. Funny, surreal, and deeply relevant all in equal measure, COLLECTIVE:UNCONSCIOUS is an amazing testament to our ability to interpret our dreams as well as the creative power of sleep. –C.P.
