Run Time: 87 minutes
Rumors are swirling around town that an amusement park started long ago by gangster Al Capone is the site of a hidden stash of loot. Convinced the legend is real, young Henry sets out to find the treasure. Happy Land is about to be shuttered, so he and his sisters, plus their friend Truman, sneak into the deserted park at night. But magic is in the air, bringing the attractions to life and taking the kids on an adventure beyond their wildest imagination. A friendly sea witch helps them find an underground train that could help them unlock Al Capone’s secret. As though their battles with a grouchy mermaid and fish and chips loving pirates aren’t enough, the kids must get past a fire-breathing dragon before they can escape the park. The idea for this movie came from writer-director Chris Parrish’s son Mason, who died at ten of cancer. THRILL RIDE gives us a colorful, kid’s-eye view of the dangers (beyond the clowns) that just might lurk beneath the wholesome exteriors of amusement parks. Thanks, Mason. —B.B.
