CIFF Receives NEA Grant

NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS ANNOUNCES GRANT TO CLEVELAND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

$20,000 grant will support the presentation of the 35th Cleveland International Film Festival

November 23, 2010—CLEVELAND—Rocco Landesman, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, today announced that the Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) has been approved for a grant of $20,000 to support the presentation of the 35th CIFF. The CIFF is one of 1,057 not-for-profit organizations recommended for a grant as part of the federal agency’s first round of fiscal year 2011 grants. In total, the Arts Endowment will distribute $26.68 million to support projects nationwide.

An independent agency of the federal government, the National Endowment for the Arts advances artistic excellence, creativity, and innovation for the benefit of individuals and communities. NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman said, “I continue to be impressed with the creative, innovative, and excellent projects brought forward by arts organizations across the country. Our grantees are not only furthering their art forms but also enhancing their neighborhoods by making them more vibrant, livable, and fun.”

For the past 35 years, the CIFF has been the premier film event in Ohio. Today the CIFF presents a full survey of contemporary international and American Independent filmmaking, with more than 150 features and over 150 short subjects from at least 60 countries.

Since 2003, the CIFF has experienced tremendous growth, including a 103% increase in attendance, a 101% increase in Call For Entry film submissions, and a 150% increase in membership.

More than 100 filmmakers and other special guests attend the CIFF where they introduce their screenings, discuss their work, and participate in FilmForums (which are panel discussions that give audience members a chance to talk about the films they’ve seen at the Festival).

The National Endowment for the Arts was established by Congress in 1965 as an independent agency of the federal government that has awarded more than $4 billion on projects of artistic excellence, creativity, and innovation for the benefit of individuals and communities. The NEA extends its work through partnerships with state arts agencies, local leaders, other federal agencies, and the philanthropic sector.
