Founded in 1977, the Cleveland International Film Festival is dedicated to showcasing the power of independent film arts to educate, inspire, and foster an inclusive human experience.

CIFF’s History

CIFF began in 1977 at the Cedar Lee Theatre with just eight films from seven countries, presented as a subscription series over eight weeks. It has since grown beyond belief, proving that Cleveland has a strong passion for a film festival.

After years at Tower City Cinemas, we now screen at the historic Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland, extending our programs, collaborations and outreach. This year, we are excited to also bring several festival screenings back to the Cedar Lee Theatre, where it all began, as well as to the CSU School of Film and Media Arts
