About CIFF
CIFF started in 1977 at the Cedar Lee Theatre with eight films from seven countries over eight weeks. It has grown into a cherished Cleveland tradition, and will exhibit films at Playhouse Square, CSU School of Film and the Cedar Lee for its milestone season in 2026.
Rooted in a clear mission to promote meaningful film arts for the community, CIFF curates hundreds of films each year and pairs them with thoughtful conversations, learning experiences, and filmmaker engagement.
Widely regarded as the region’s flagship film event, CIFF remains the dominant festival in the Cleveland market and is known for best-in-class filmmaker hospitality and a programming approach that invites civic dialogue. Educational initiatives and community partnerships are considered vital pillars of the Festival’s impact—meeting audiences where they are and amplifying stories that matter.
