Cinderella story of a young, third-rate boxer (Sylvester Stallone) who, by a freak of fate, gets his chance to have a crack at the heavyweight title. In doing so, he wins for himself the self respect he has been missing all his life. Co-starring Talia Shire as his shy girlfriend, the film is the only "sport film" ever to be awarded an Oscar for Best Picture (1976).
