Adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Moss Hart-George S. Kaufman play. Lionel Barrymore plays the father of the zany Vanderhof family who believe in doing just what they like and to hell with the consequences. The father decides one day that he has earned enough money and wants to spend the next 30 years having fun. Up against him - Wall Street business tycoon Edward Arnold who need to demolish the Vanderhof home as part of his plans to expand his business plant. Winner of two 1939 Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture. Also received five other nominations.
