This unusual comedy about a bisexual menage a trois plus one is the first feature-length drama by Coline Serreau, who has previously been an actress, scriptwriter and documentary filmmaker. The central character Fernand cares for his lovers Louis, a disturbed, childlike musician, and Alexa, who has left her straightlaced husband and earns the money for this improbable, but happy, household. When Louis meets a rather dizzy upper-class girl Sylvie and falls for her, he turns the whole arrangement into a crisis. The film becomes a modern version of the classic screwball comedy, with some gently stated social commentary underlying the protagonists' contact with "normal" society. It's never implied that any of the main characters are strange, rather the world in which they are trying to live is strange.
