COOL RUNNINGS: THE REGGAE MOVIE (w/ guest Robert Mugge, Director)

Year: 1983
Country: Great Britain/USA
Run Time: 105 minutes

Director/producer/editor Robert Mugge feels he also wears the hats of a journalist/biographer/choreagrapher/diplomat in the creation of his vibrant documentaries on musicians, such as Sun Ra, Al Green, Gil Scott-Heron and Reuben Blades. In COOL RUNNINGS Mugge features the electrifying highlights of the 1983 Reggae Sunsplash Festival in Montego Bay. Encompassing the full range of Jamaican reggae, 13 acts perform their sizzling best, including crossover reggae-influenced artists Gil Scott-Heron and Third World; "Freedom Sound" by the Skatalites, reunited after 19 years; Sugar Minott's "Rough Ole Life"; Bob Marley's son Ziggy and the Melody Makers; and the mesmerizing dub poet, Mutabaruka. The film's title is a reggae brother's term of greeting.
