L'ETE PROCHAIN (Next Summer)

Year: 1984
Country: France
Run Time: 100 minutes

L'ETE PROCHAIN is a nostalgic, humorous and bittersweet account of a large family, centering on the male/female relationships within 3 age groups. The parents (Claudia Cardinale and Philippe Noiret) have a stormy marriage due the jovial, loutish husband's roving eye. Their eldest daughter, Dino (Fanny Ardant) is married to Paul (Jean-Louis Trintignant), an older, egotistical man in the theater. A younger daughter (Marie Trintignant) is a pianist with stage fright whose husband is the only supportive and understanding male in the bunch. Quarrels and disappointments turn to bitterness and lead to separations followed by reconciliations of the couples, all reuniting into one happy family after a major crisis. Typically and delightfully French.
