This delicate film follows a young Chinese couple who move to London where they hope to find their fortune. The groom finds a job as a waiter in a crowded Chinatown restaurant. The couple has a son and are joined by the husband's aging father and the wife's sister. Each adjusts to life in the West in a different way, but none feels completely at home in London. The husband goes through a tough time, becoming indebted to a Chinese gang, but eventually he moves his family to the suburbs where they begin to prosper. Suddenly fate intervenes, lending the story a haunting turn that lingers in the mind long after one's left the theatre.
