Tuscan pumpkins are suspect; East Bloc circus clowns can't find Brooklyn; superstardom threatens the career plans of an aspiring mechanic. Writer/director Jim Jarmusch (who did Cleveland winters justice in ?Stranger Than Paradise") tours the globe with five vignettes set in five different taxicabs in five major world cities. Each segment tops the last, from LA to Helsinki, from uproarious comedy to dramatic irony worthy of Chekbov. An international cast of hacks and fares act out the skewed human condition, to the music of the incomparable Tom Waits. In English, French, Italian and Finnish (the last three with subtitles).
