The relationship between John Lennon and the Beatles' (homosexual) manager Brian Epstein, long a point of speculation, is audaciously recreated in Munch's meticulous short feature. What might have happened during a 1963 weekend the two share in Barcelona: 'Eppie' recognizes the unruly genius in Lennon and wants to feed the musician's intellect ? and perhaps assuage his own loneliness. Lennon himself has just reluctantly become a father and feels the first rumblings of stardom. They carefully orbit one another only months before success .,hakes, rattles and rolls their lives forever. Filmed with a black-and-white palette reminiscent of "A Hard Day's Night,"'THE HOURS AND TIMES is a mature, flawlessly acted scrutiny of a modem legend.
