Undoubtedly the most inventive and stylish entertainment from China this year, THE SWORDSMAN IN DOUBLE-FLAG TOWN is an edge-of-the-seat Westem in the grand tradition of Sergio Leone and Sam Peckinpah. When he was still in his cradle, Hai Ge was engaged to the daughter of an innkeeper. Now, after years of wandering the country with his horse and sword, he's made the long journey back to Double-Flag Town (actually a walled village in the desert) to wed his fiance. Here he finds the locals cowering in fear of two bandit brothers and their gang. More by accident than by design, Hai Ge kills one of the bandits. Now, facing up to swordplay skills he never knew he had, he becomes the town's official defender, and the Asian answer to "High Noon" is underway.
