Don't confuse A MATTER OF FAITH with any other movies that might be playing out there starring Madonna in South America. This comedy-drama deals with the real Madonna - the Holy Virgin who remains a living presence to everyone from soldiers to peasants. This includes infamous gangster "Toad" Estivaris, who's had a good year and wants to express his thanks by giving a small church the best possible plaster Madonna. The toad hires Domingo, a profane, penniless artisan renowned for his Madonnas, to fashion a life-sized icon and transport it across rugged countryside to the parish in 12 days - or else. The journey is fraught with peril, temptation, romance, and heartbreak, but Domingo trusts that his blessed statue will protect him and his small, motley entourage against anything that happens. With earthy humor, a miracle or two, and the unforgettable image of the Virgin gliding serenely along in the back of a pickup truck, A MATTER OF FAITH won't leave anyone asking, "Who's that girl?" In Spanish with English subtitles.
