Two years after his death, Itsuki Fujii's fianc?, Hiroko Watanabe, is still in mourning. While reminiscing with Itsuki's mother, Hiroko notices an address scrawled inside an old yearbook. Out of grief, Hiroko sends a letter to her fianc? at that address, not expecting a reply. But she gets one anyway. There is another Itsuki Fujii who went to school with Hiroko's dead lover, but this Itsuki is a woman. An unusual correspondence develops between these two women who, it turns out, are physical doubles but whose personalities couldn't be more different: one is a shy person who carefully hides her feelings, the other is bold, sexy, and sports a devilish sense of humor. LOVE LETTER looks at the dead man through both women's eyes, and thus reveals how they see the world and themselves. In his feature debut, Shunji Iwai has created a truly original romantic drama which keeps surprising the audience with the directions it takes. Warm and stylish, this debut promises great things from a significant new talent. In Japanese with English subtitles.
