"30 Women in 30 Days" - that's the eye-catching title of a make-or-break article being pounded out by harried New York reporter Keith, who's been in a literary funk for the last two years. If this piece, about what type of lady advertises for men in the lonely-hearts ads, strikes out at the Village Voice, Keith's going to be scanning the classifieds himself - for a new job. Disguising himself as 'Julian,' musician and sci-fi fan, Keith plunges into a diva-thon of female specimens looking for a love connection. There's brash, lo-class Loquita; luscious Lorraine, who disrespects all the brothers; strident sistah Leatha, who hates all whites (and blacks who mix with them); the unspeakable Spider; volcanic Veronica; trekkie Melanie; 'Poet Woman,' ... and Leah, a mystery voice on the phone. As the article progresses, so does Keith, discovering some basic truths about the opposite sex and his own bad self. Make a romantic rendezvous with PERSONALS, a saucy comedy with a sterling cast. The CIFF's best date flick, in more ways than one.
