CRANE WORLD
(MUNDO GRUA)

Year: 1999
Country: Argentina
Run Time: 90 minutes

Rulo enjoyed his moment of glory as a bass player in a 1970s rock band in South America. They had one hit song on the charts before the spotlight moved on. Now at 50, decidedly old for teen-idol status, he works low-paying manual jobs, shares a home that's little more than a shack with a lackadaisical son who fantasizes over his own musical success. With both the boy and an aged mother to support, Rulo plans another comeback, but this time it won't be in front of a recording-microphone, but rather the control-levers and switches for construction equipment. Rulo decides to train as a high-rise crane-operator to realize steady employment ? and perhaps make a new start by deepening his courtship with the lady proprietor of a nearby food stand. CRANE WORLD is a realistic, working-class drama of a middle-aged man at the crossroads of his life. Its somber, black-and-white authority and non-pro cast will rock you inside.
