?The Beast? is the name given by Afghanis to the Soviet tanks that spearheaded the invasion of their country in 1980. This film focuses on the crew of a single Soviet tank lost in a harsh desert and the crew?s flight from a band of Afghani rebels seeking revenge for the atrocities incurred on their village. Overwhelmed by their fight for survival, the crew?s pretense of military discipline unravels and longstanding tensions surface. A unique look at the Soviet 'Vietnam' experience sympathetically told for both sides. THE BEAST is a taunt and timely drama of moral dilemmas, personal histories, and consciences in conflict.
