Summer with the Ghosts
(Sommer mit den Burggespemstern)

Year: 2003
Country: CANADA, AUSTRIA
Run Time: 85 minutes

A haunted palace...A series of spooky accidents...A couple of "meddling kids" and a rather cowardly dog intent on saving the day. But it's not what you think. Scooby Snacks to all those who recognize the name of Rock Demers. Often compared to Walt Disney himself, this French-Canadian producer is known throughout the world for his high-quality family features, including "Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller" (13th CIFF, 1989), "Vincent and Me" (15th CIFF, 1991) and "The Flying Sneaker" (17th CIFF, 1993). His latest is a clever fantasy about 10-year-old Caroline, visiting her director-father shooting on location at an ancient Austrian castle. Having a film crew around can disrupt anybody's daily routine - just ask. But it proves especially irksome to the estate's normally-invisible population of medieval-era ghosts, with centuries-old habits and strict schedules. With the help of local boy Jakob and Otto the special effects man, Caroline tries to work out compromises between the moviemakers and the spectres, in situations they just don't prepare you for in film school.
