A 12-year old protagonist is named 'Jamie.' Jamie's mother, Kendra, suffers a fatal heart attack. He conceals her death for 13 days by creating a facade of normalcy. The charade is finally revealed when Mrs., Levine, a woman who employed Kendra, becomes suspicious after repeated attempts to reach her fail.
