Isavella is growing up like a princess under the roof of her father, a powerful figure in local society in 1960. At her 18th birthday party she is approached by Dimitris, who comes from the Greek community of southern Ethiopia. This causes a huge stir within the conservative local society, so Dimitris proposes that they elope but with the agreement that he won't even touch her hand until she wants him to. She remains trapped by her status in the community which causes all of their plans to fall through. Thirty-five years later in Athens, Isavella's family is in decline and she is a widow. Dimitris, who has now fallen ill, returns and rents an apartment directly across from Isavella's without her knowing it. He watches her night and day, but his passion is haunted by a secret of an event at Lake Alemaya.
