What is the purpose of life? Icelandic director Fridriksson tackles that ancient question using gorgeous visuals and a story that reads like a fairy tale. Young Jed is madly, naively in love with Chloe, a girl he knows from their sheltered workshop. Though it?s unlikely they?ve kissed, Jed knows he will marry Chloe and they?ll live happily ever after. But just when he pops the question, Chloe?s beloved cat is killed, and she slips into a deep depression; they cannot marry until Jed finds out the purpose of life. A sweet, pure character on a quest, Jed seeks help from Max (Gary Lewis), a junkyard dog of a man who is hiding a tragedy of his own. Jed camps out in Max?s strange compound, and awaits his answer, while his parents and all other ?normal? people slump in front of their TVs. When Chloe slips into a coma, Jed becomes desperate, and gets a little help from his mentally challenged friends, who, in the town of Niceland, are as perceptive
